Miley Cyrus’s Glam-Rock Look Is Inspired By This Surprising Album Cover

Miley Cyrus brings a rock-and-roll spirit to everything that she does. Though she’s a pop star, she has covered classic hits by rock icons such as Joan Jett, Nine Inch Nails, and Metallica, among other artists. Her street style is often rocker-chic too, replete with tons of band tees and cool ripped jeans. For her latest musical performance, however, Cyrus’s glam rock style reached new highs in one sultry moment with an unlikely inspiration.

This weekend, the singer performed as part of the Global Goal: Unite For Our Future stream, which saw stars unite for a call to end social injustices and continue fighting against COVID-19. For the occasion, Cyrus performed a powerful rendition of The Beatles hit “Help!” in the empty Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA. When it came time to choosing her look for the stage, Cyrus also looked to The Beatles’s original album artwork for “Help!” and gave the oversized blue shirts worn by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr a more glamorous twist.

But instead of a tent-like top, Cyrus’s rendition was an ab-revealing gown complete with dazzling crystals, an asymmetric sleeve, and a high slit courtesy of Alexandre Vauthier couture. “I wanted it to stay vibrant and hopeful like the melody of the song,” Cyrus tells Vogue of her look. “I love how this dress represents ‘Glam Rock.’ A little more [David] Bowie than The Beatles—with a nod to Dolly [Parton], whose version of ‘Help!’ I used as inspiration for my cover.” Parton, who is Cyrus’s godmother, is surely proud of the glam end result.

Heels at Home? Kim Kardashian West Says Yes, You Can

As many of us continue to stay home and practice social distancing, sky-high heels or restrictive jeans are, for the most part, being retired in favor of sweats and sneakers. There are even several memes dedicated to the covid-era phenomenon. But that isn’t the case for Kim Kardashian West.

Last week, the reality star wore leather chaps, and today, her latest fit pic even makes the case for wearing stilettos at home. As a devoted heel wearer, clearly Kardashian West has yet to succumb to the comfort of flip-flops. (Though, she does love herself a flip-flop heel.

The new series of photos feature Kardashian West sauntering around the hall of her home in plastic mules, a now signature Kim K shoe. She has been wearing the clear, PVC style for the past few years now, and she often favors Yeezy styles designed by her husband, Kanye West. Kardashian West styled her latest pair of see-through footwear with a pink bodycon dress replete with cut-outs at the bust and waist, accessorizing further with large pink statement earrings. The whole look made it seem like she was ready to head out to a party—or a least an important Zoom soiree.

Post Malone Just Recreated One of Kurt Cobain’s Most Iconic Outfits

Post Malone has a certain charm that one might politely call unkempt, but his style doesn’t necessarily skew towards grunge in the traditional sense. Posty, as he’s affectionately called by his fans, can usually be seen in a variation of the classic Nudie suit, like the custom, studded baby pink one that he wore to the Grammys last year or the vibrant blue one embroidered with leopard-printed rattlesnakes that he revealed just a month later on the American Music Awards red carpet. Even when he does wear a conventional suit, as he did at the GQ Man of the Year Awards in 2019, he’ll still top it off with a ten gallon hat.

His penchant for Westernwear might seem like a far cry from the 1990s grunge aesthetic as typified by Kurt Cobain’s baggy thrift store sweaters and flannels, but tonight Post Malone proved there’s more style overlap between him and the Nirvana frontman than you might think. With Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker in his backing band (and the blessings of both former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and Courtney Love), Post Malone livestreamed a Nirvana tribute concert out of his home in Los Angeles earlier tonight.

The rapper put on the concert as a fundraiser for the WHO’s COVID-10 Solidarity Response Fund, and it’s already made quite the impact: they raised $2.6 million in the span of just a few hours. He recreated an iconic Cobain look for the occasion. In a matronly, long floral dress just like the one Cobain wore to a 1990 Nirvana performance in Amherst, Massachusetts, he covered such classics as “Heart-Shaped Box” and “Lithium.” True to form, though, Post Malone put his own spin on the outfit—he added a silver choker made up of little heart charms and a brown trucker hat. Post Malone might be today’s patron saint of sleazy style, but with this convincing turn, you can almost envision an alternate history where he’s the forgotten fourth member of Nirvana.

Dakota Johnson Finds the Season’s Coolest Loafers

The official start of spring may still be a few days off, but that hasn’t stopped Hollywood’s most fashionable stars from testing out the season’s best trends. Yesterday, as Dakota Johnson enjoyed a day out in West Hollywood, she chose pieces tailored to her bohemian tastes. In a black leather jacket, tan crop top, and loose-fitting high-waisted trousers Johnson epitomized low-key chic as she picked up her Cha Cha Matcha, but the look’s defining feature was her statement footwear. A pair of navy velvet lug-soled loafers from Gucci elevated the entire ensemble, adding a touch of polish while tapping into a recurring theme from the runways. At shows like Coach, Marc Jacobs, ChloĆ© and, of course, Gucci, the traditional slip-ons were back in a big way. Styled with contrasting socks for the maximum impact, they provided an effortless way to dress up even the most casual outfits.

Johnson appears to have taken cues from the collections, wearing thick socks with the chunky platforms. Lug soles have been trending of late—see Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid’s continued fascination with Prada’s army-inspired boots—but the Gucci pair took the look into fresh territory. The upper looks like a standard office-wear loafer but the soles seemed ripped from combat boots. The shoes reflect creative director Alessandro Michele’s mix of high and low. As a longtime Gucci muse, Johnson was a natural choice to give these loafers a chic street style debut.

Uma Thurman and Her Son Stole the Show at Dior Couture in Paris

Uma Thurman has long been lighting up the red carpet with her laid-back take on Old Hollywood glamour, and over the past few years, her children have been entering the spotlight in style, too. Maya Hawke, her daughter with Before Sunrise star Ethan Hawke—talk about great genes—has seen her nascent acting career go from strength to strength, stealing scenes in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and the third season of the Netflix smash hit Stranger Things. Along the way, she’s become a Miu Miu favorite, regularly showing up on the brand’s front row and even starring in their spring 2019 campaign.

And while her 18-year-old brother Levon has also begun quietly following in the footsteps of his Hollywood superstar parents by appearing in a short film, he’s largely kept a low profile. That is, unless he’s hanging out with Thurman during her occasional front row appearances. Clearly a fashion fan himself, Hawke has accompanied his mother to Prada shows in New York sporting very dapper bespoke tailoring by the Italian house.

Now, it seems he’s willing to cross the pond to take in the latest trends. Arriving earlier today to the Dior spring 2020 haute couture show in Paris, Thurman stood hand in hand with her very stylish son wearing an impeccably-cut take on the brand’s signature bar jacket, paired with houndstooth-print culottes and a dark grey duster jacket. Hawke, meanwhile, subtly matched his mother’s very chic outfit in a plaid, shearling-collar bomber jacket overtop a navy sweater and black tailored trousers. Having one of the world’s best-dressed actors as your mom clearly comes with a few perks.
